Colorado Springs, Col., progressive rock band Edifice will release its first official album, titled Arc Mentis, this fall. The independently released debut album comes after a demo released in 2006.
The album title, Arc Mentis, is Latin (alternate spelling) for "Mind Ship." According to band members, the album centers around the concept of self as a vessel taking humanity and individuals to ever grander states and places. The band's interest in trans-humanism and meditation buttress this idea as well. Edifice envisions a mass ascension of individuals seeking self actualization, bettering themselves, and inspiring those around them with their entrancing, inspiring tunes.
Ryan C. Lewis, vocals/guitar, and Joshua David Baumgartner, drums/background vocals, have been collaborating since 2003. The current line up of the band was not complete until Brendan Brossard (2005), Warr Touch Guitar, and Adrian Johnson (2006), electric violin/electric cello/guitar, joined Edifice.
With musical influences such as King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Tool, U2, and The Beatles, Edifice has centered the new album around a theme they hope will be the beginning of a multi-volume story of the evolution of humanity. Edifice struts a democratic writing process that equally incorporates everyone's ideas fostering their philosophy to create more than they consume and put their energies into constructive activities instead of mind-numbing, addictive, and destructive behaviors.
The final track on the album, "Exodus," alludes to individuals and humanity leaving behind former lands to reach greater heights. Edifice members agree that the voyage can be literal as well as existential or philosophical in terms of redefining oneself.

Trippy tunes. Carries a strong flowery spirit that makes me believe in myself and all of humanity. Too bad I harbor all that is evil within me and the world is doomed to chaotic destruction (as history reflects) when humans lean on their percieved autonomy for greatness. Keep drinking what their teaching you. They've manipulated you to draw your own predicted conclusion. My krutch will take me places. He can take you, too.
