Top notch travel mugs

  1. For many, coffee is an essential part of the daily routine.
  2. Modern life can be hectic and demanding of your time.
  3. Getting one coffee "to-go" every day for a typical work year (250 days) will cost $437.50 (at $1.75/cup)
  4. All those paper cups, whether from recycled sources or not, are a tremendous burden on the environment.

By now you probably know where this is going. Though pretty much necessary, coffee hardly qualifies as an accessory. On the other hand, a sturdy, high quality, LEAK-PROOF, insulated travel mug that you take with you everywhere, is a great accessory to invest in.

Good
Thermos has been known for a very long time as the go to company when it comes to keeping things hot or cold for hours while on the go. In fact, it's been a genericized trademark in the United States since 1963 due to its ubiquity. In the realm of thermal coffee mugs they have one model in particular that stands above the rest.

This bad boy holds 14 ounces of hot or cold liquids while remaining cool and dry to the touch. It has a flip top that keeps its contents inside and it has a raised rim which allows liquids to cool slightly before hitting your lip. All in all a solid buy if you're in the market for a travel mug.

Better
Brugo has taken the concept of convenient thermal coffee conveyance and improved upon it in one simple but significant way. The Brugo mug holds 16 ounces, is double wall insulated like the Thermos, fits in most cup holders like the Thermos, but it has a special lid that should make it THE choice for discerning coffee drinkers. The lid has a 1 ounce "temperature control chamber" built into it that is filled with a quick tip of your wrist which allows your 205 degree beverage to cool to a more drinkable and pleasant temperature. Nice.

Both mugs are available for about 20 bucks. You can get Thermos products at your local Target and you can get the Brugo at the Standard 5 and 10, 3545 California Street in San Francisco or through brugomug.com.
