Vegan shoes have been around for a long time now but only recently has there been a decent selection from which to choose. Using a combination of natural and synthetic materials instead of animal hides these shoes keep much of the comfort and style of their leather counterparts but do so in a way that is widely thought of as cruelty-free. Check out this list of some of the latest offerings:

Boca Clog by Klogs - photo: klogs.com
Polyurethane uppers, closed-back design and a latex-free footbed means these shoes should be light-weight, durable and easy to clean. $50 - Available at On the Run.

Jova by Earth - photo: earthfootwear.com
A Vegan Society Certified lace-to-toe oxford with a microfiber mesh upper that is light-weight and very breathable. Comes in Khaki and Black. $99 - Available at Crosswalk.

Ventura Canvas by Keen - photo: amazon.com
Keen makes comfortable shoes and the Ventura Canvas should be no different. Natural canvas upper, recycled aluminum eyelets, removable cork footbed and natural rubber outsole. $60 - Available at De La Sole Footwear.

Ambleside Strathcona by Fluevog - photo: fluevog.com
These super-styling shoes feature raw canvas uppers with printed pinstripes, the mudguards and lining are faux-leather and the shoes are assembled using water-based glues. $105 - Available at Fluevog.
There you have it - from Klogs to Vogs. Maybe not something for everyone but certainly something for some of us.

I have a pair of the Keens pictured. Love them.
You're not supposed to EAT them. *grin*
