This is part two of a two part interview with Jason Kibbey, CEO & Co-founder of Berekely-based PACT Apparel Inc.
KF - Do you have other products in mind for PACT? (I know I'd like to see some nice, soft shirts and maybe some jammy-pants. Just saying.)
JK - We want to really lead with great underwear and perfect our ability to make and sell great underwear and then we'll think about making more products. We only will make products the world needs, and we won't make crap it doesn't need. As an environmentalist, one of the reasons we got into the underwear business is that it is something that everyone needs (some of my extremely crunchy friends disagree...) and if you are going to buy it, why not buy it sustainably in a way that allows you to wear your values?
KF - I can't help but notice a bit of the Wax Brand structuring and contouring in the PACT Boxer Brief and Trunk. Do you know how cool that is? I guess what I'm saying, if you're going to be seen parading around in your underwear you may as well look good while doing it, right?
JK - Dwaye, one of our team members, designed wax's underwear and he has shaped our thinking about fits and played a big role in designing our underwear. He's great at making underwear.
KF - Are you having fun being in this business? Underpants are kind of the unsung hero of the clothing world.
JK - Totally! It's so great to have a fantastic team and make a product you believe in. Underwear is especially fun--Jeff and I get flashed all the time by strangers!
KF - Truth time: Right now, as you are answering these questions are you wearing PACT underwear?
JK - Wearing my global green boxer briefs. I have 19 pairs of pact and only if there is a near laundry disaster, I revert back to my "conventional" pairs.
KF - Which fit is your favorite?
JK - I think my all time favorite might be the Oceana Solid blue Boxer Briefs--my wife tells me they're the cutest. And they feel great, just enough support and just enough freedom.
