Recently, this column mentioned a particularly special pair of pants from Lindland's Courdarounds that featured 3M reflective material on the inside of the cuff - see picture here - an especially useful way of making yourself VERY visible while riding around San Francisco at night.
With the 4th of July right around the corner, and the weather being about as fine as it gets around here, the idea of cruising around on a bicycle sounds very appealing. If you've ever traveled to Europe, Amsterdam or Copenhagen specifically, you are probably familiar with those most basic of personal accessories, the black bike. Fortunately for us on the opposite side of the world from Northern Europe there seems to be a bit of a cult following developing and finally that ubiquitous symbol of intermodal transport is being sold in downtown San Francisco!

My Dutch Bike, at 575 Market Street is home to mydutchbike.com and the coolest, most stylish bicycles the world has ever known. They have three models - the Bakfiets, Oma-Opafiets & FR8fiets plus a lighter weight version of the Oma-Opafiets - all of which can be customized in various ways, all of which are handmade, and all of which are about as burly as a bike can be. According to the owners of My Dutch Bike, Soraya and Oscar, you "can always custom order just about anything." You know you want to be the first kid on your block to get one of these. Go downtown and check them out!

YES! Dutch bikes rule. They're sturdy and practical in a way that makes me smile like the old English-made Raleighs, but with brakes that work, and with nuts and bolts sized and threaded to fit wrenches that actually exist in the real world. And did you notice the 3M retroreflective white sidewall stripe on the tires?
I was just looking in their window at lunchtime yesteday. Beautiful machines, but they sure aren't cheap!
MyDutchBike have Beautiful Bikes right here in SF. can't believe. I was wondering when they would finally arrive. I test rode one and they are so comfortable and i was in a skirt...was awesome and cool
