The human body contains energy fields and the 7 key energy centers are known as Chakras. If you have been meditating you know of these energy centers and you strive to tap into them during a meditation practice. Also during many yoga practices Chakras become involved as the main focus.
Kundalini Yoga, the Raj of all yoga, a mediation type of yoga totally focuses on these energy centers. It is also known as the “awakening” yoga. Kundalini yoga taps into your Prana, the base of the spine considered the “snake coiled at the base of the spine”. This yoga can be highly physical or less physical either way it will tap into your energy source and bring you to a higher meditative level. The use of music, mantras, chants and mudras heighten your level of higher consciousness.
If you are a meditator, yoga enthusiast or are seeking out more knowledge about yoga and meditation this may be the yoga for you. Kundalini yoga is fairly new to the western world but its roots are ancient stemming back to Guru Ram Das in the 16th century.

Guru Ram Das
Here is a hymn by Guru Ram Das from page 305 of the Guru Granth Sahib:
“One who calls himself a Sikh of the True Guru shall get up early morning and meditate on the Lord's Name. Make effort regularly to cleanse, bathe & dip in the ambrosial pool. Upon Guru's instructions, chant Har, Har singing which, all misdeeds, sins and pains shall go away. ”
Guru Ram Das reference Wikipedia:
Har is a reference to God.
Yogi Bhajan, Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa was the first to teach Kundalini yoga publicly in the United States. He started 3HO, the Healthy, Happy, Holy Organization a Global Community of Living Yoga, in 1969 to effectively introduce Kundalini Yoga to a broader audience. Yogi Bhajan has inspired, by his teachings, people of the West for nearly 30 years. Yogi Bhajan differs from other teachers in modern times and uses only the sacred science of Kundalini Yoga to bring solutions for the concerns and problems that are of our world today. He believes that “Happiness is every human beings birthright”. “You should make yourself so happy, that by looking at you, other people become happy.” — Yogi Bhajan
