It is hard to tell a straight forward story about a classic when you have to make money at it. Yet it was not hard for "Sherlock Holmes" the movie grossed $65 million over the holiday weekend?
If making money was the goal the movie is definitely doing that. Film is full of dramatic special affects, twist and turns that only a sleuth could only appreciate, and a hard to follow plot that was more mysterious than the character Holmes.
??Director Guy Ritchies’ interpretation on the Sherlock Holmes character is that of a super human eccentric, physic (although Holmes mentions “I am not a physic” in the movie), Holmes is a good guy, outlaw too smart for his own good.
Robert Downy Jr., who played Holmes, made a good showing in the role but didn’t quite measure up to the fictional Holmes: it was like “Iron Man” in 1800’s. It is clear why Downy was casted, no one else could have pulled off the character except maybe Anthony Hopkins.
??The Hollywood treatment on this story is a classic. Overly treated special effects, lighting fast analysis of crime scenes by Holmes, and violence and destruction that could have only been created in movie.
If you are a classical Sherlock Holmes fan you might be offended or let down by Ritchies' interpretation or spin on Holmes: It’s was like taking a B52 bomber and putting in ten F14 fighter Jet engines. If you are a Robert Downy Jr. or “Iron Man” fan you might be pleased.
