After Jamie Foxx's performance with T Pain, Slash, and Doug E Fresh on the 52nd annual Grammy Awards Foxx looked over at rapper Jay Z and said “I apologize for the Auto-Tune Jay Z.” Last year Jay Z, who's album “The Blue Print 3,” sold 1.2 million since its release in 2009 featured a song called “Death Of Auto-tune.”

In his song Jay Z says:

“You rappers singing too much, get back to rap you t-paining too much. I’m a multi-millionaire so how is it I’m still the hardest here.

Foxx, who can sing without Auto-Tunes, seemed to want to make a point to Jay Z after the fans cheered his performance.

Auto-Tune is a proprietary audio processor created by Antares Audio Technologies. Auto-Tune uses a phase vocoder to correct pitch in vocal and instrumental performances. It is used to disguise off-key inaccuracies and mistakes, and has allowed singers to perform perfectly tuned vocal tracks without the need of singing in tune.

Jay Z's song created a stir in the rap music industry as a lot of rappers were starting to use Auto-Tune to enhance their singing or lack of it. Another musician, Wyclef Jean, and actor Nick Cannon made a video parody but took the position that Auto-Tunes is a useful tool that should be used to innovate music. See the video.
