At first, the crowd at Mac World 2010 looked like a bustling metropolis as hordes of attendees waited in line to pick up their badges or register. The ride down the escalator even looked promising as the sea of spectators stretched for what seemed like miles. The Expo was almost reminiscing of the old Comdex computer show days in Las Vegas.

On the contrary, this year’s expo was what most people expected with the departure of Apple: a smaller crowd, a scaled back floor plan, and a crammed Expo with a sparse group of major corporate vendors. This years Expo is a good indication that the Mac World Expo is not going to survive without Apple or some of the other major corporate vendors that attended in the past. Last years Expo was huge, took over the entire Moscone Center, and sizzled.

Here is a look into this year’s 2010 event:

A lot has changed since last year and most would agree that the economy has not been the greatest for spending. So with that said IDG World Expo, the company who puts on the event, was savvy to incorporate a Saturday Expo day to pull in the attendee’s whom would have not ordinarily attended the Expo during the week.

Another conscience move was to schedule the event around the announcement of Apple’s iPad, which ultimately delayed the Expo about a month but it created some much-needed hype. Is IDG World’s ability to juggle the “X Factors, ” like Apple Product announcements, in the future going to be enough to keep the Expo alive in the coming years? The bet on the street is not!
