WCBS-FM
In the final installment of the articles written about CBS-FM’s two-year return from “Jack-FM,” this reporter gave thanks to those at the station who helped make the five-part series happen.
Now, giving their own thanks, some of the many listeners, who show the wide-ranging popularity of CBS-FM.
Here are a few such examples:
In the conclusion of the series, I relayed my interview with morning host Dan Taylor and Mr. G. Theresa DeStefano had this to say:
“I wake up each and every morning and immediately put on CBS-FM 101.1. … It is such a pleasant program and a nice way to get my day going. I would be lost with[out] them. Mr. G and Dan are wonderful together. They have a special friendship and it shows on the program. …We were lost for two years without [CBS-FM]. A loyal listener.”
Another comment came from John:
“Dan and [Mr.]G---what a combo. I am a teamster and while driving, I often have to pull over just to stop and compose myself from laughing so hard. … CBS[-FM] has the best DJs and workforce behind the mikes of any other station---and that ain’t [sic] “Jack”. Don’t ever do that again.”
Bernie kept the good feelings going toward Taylor. “Dan IS the best DJ on WCBS-FM. He was the perfect choice to do the show!”
On the profile of Broadway Bill Lee, Mike Schwartz said, “As a longtime fan of … the history of NY radio, there was one really fascinating revelation in [the] installment; I am referring to Bill Lee's admission to being influenced by the late “Mad Daddy” Pete Myers, from the old 1010 WINS.”
Schwartz said after he read the Lee article, “… I went back and relistened to “Mad Daddy” airchecks from [19]63 & [19]64 with a new appreciation for both the legacy of Myers and Lee's ability to update and enhance this difficult rhyming skill. I couldn't imagine doing this for three minutes, let alone four hours a day for 35 years. This is a really enjoyable series of articles. Thanks for sharing it with us!”
And thanks, Mike, for sharing that with us!
Don O’Brien also weighed in on CBS-FM’s afternoon personality.
“I grew up listening to Bill on the old Hot 97/103. It is so great to hear him on my way [home] each afternoon. I may like the music on other stations more … but the personalities on CBS-FM are why it is my #1 station. All of them [are] class acts!”
Mary Shaw echoed the same sentiment. “Great articles of my friends at WCBS-FM. They are awesome!!”
Feedback also came in via email, among them Paul Piorek. The morning meteorologist at News 12 Connecticut called the series, “…outstanding.” Piorek said, “I thoroughly enjoyed reading each article.”
Dale Parsons, who had Taylor on staff when he was program director at WNBC-AM, summed up the week-long celebration of classic hits on 101.1 FM this way, “Great job on the WCBS-FM articles! … Thanks for your great series and your excellent coverage of New York media.”
