| PHILOSOPHY | A "folk dance" originated by slaves in Brazil, Capoeira is steeped in ritual, music and religion. The true nature of Capoeira is combative, with striking techniques hidden in large, dance-like and acrobatic movements. A rhythmic art originally disguised as dance, it evolved into a combat martial art style. Combat practice was denied to slaves, but dance was not. Capoeira bridged the gap between. | In the 1500's, Thai soldiers trained in Muay Thai, or Thai boxing as it is also known. It is a close combat art designed for warfare, for use in place of weapons.
