Inexpensive flower ideas for the perfect wedding

There’s no disputing that flowers are an essential part of the ambiance puzzle at any wedding, however, I personally have a difficult time forking out hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, for disposable décor. I’ll take the inexpensive alternative.

CostOfWedding.com estimates couples spend an average of $315 - $525 on flowers for their ceremony alone. Tack on another $120 - $215 for corsages and boutonnieres, and at least $700 to pretty up the reception, and your wedding just became the world’s most expensive indoor garden.

There are, of course, alternatives to achieving the softness and romance that comes from floral bouquets without the hefty price.

My sister had a genius idea when she asked our church if she could use the Christmas poinsettias for her wedding ceremony. Though the church secretary doubted the flowers would last until Amy’s January 24th wedding, they quickly found that a lot of water can dramatically extend the plants’ lifespan. Because of her innovative thinking, Amy’s wedding was beautifully decorated at no cost. Not a bad way to go.

Being the creative and thoughtful sister that I like to think I am, I also helped out my big sis by crafting her a one-of-a kind bridal bouquet. Using silk flowers from Michael’s craft store, as well as a few other supplies that will be described in an upcoming article, I was able to create a unique arrangement of flowers that perfectly aligned with her winter wedding theme. Amy loved the fact that she’d be able to keep and display her bouquet forever. I was thrilled with its $30 price tag.

Excited about the success of my sister's wedding bouquet, I once again tested my skill when I created my own. In addition to my matron of honor and bridesmaid's bouquets, (pictured left) I utilized silk flowers to achieve the perfect floral arrangement for my summer wedding. Not only did I receive countless compliments on my flowers, which always feels great, but I also continue to enjoy the bouquet's beauty as it rests in my china cabinet on display today.
