Facebook, the world’s most popular social networking site, has started hiring for positions in its new Austin office.
The Palo Alto, Calif.-based company plans to create about 200 jobs in Austin, with an average salary of more than $54,000 a year.
In a posting on its careers page, Facebook said:
“Austin is home to our first U.S. sales and online operations office outside of Palo Alto where we support our users, advertisers, and developers. We work hard and play hard in Austin by keeping it weird with live music, SXSW, and Austin City Limits. Thank goodness we can work off the local BBQ and ice cream with a group run around Lady Bird Lake!”
Among the areas where Facebook is hiring in Austin are inside sales manager, inside sales account executive, inside sales account associate, fraud analyst and fraud investigator.
On March 12, the Austin City Council approved $200,000 in incentives for Facebook to open the Austin office. The State of Texas is chipping in $1.4 million worth of incentives.
Grady Burnett, director of global online sales and operations at Facebook, said in a statement:
“The (Austin) area’s world-class educational system and talented workforce give us the means to quickly establish a strong outfit. We also want Facebook employees to have a high quality of life by being part of a vibrant, dynamic environment, and Austin offers all of that and more. We look forward to building our team here in Austin and enjoying all the wonderful things the city has to offer.”
