Most of us hope to say or write something that will be remembered tomorrow, let alone one hundred years after our death.
Part of Mark Twain's continued appeal in the 21st Century is the way his words can still speak to us on many subjects.
We will sharing some of my favorite Mark Twain quotes on different topics this year in this column
Here are some of my favorite Mark Twain quotes on writing:
- Writing is the easiest thing in the world... just try it sometime.
- The public is the only critic whose opinion is worth anything at all.
- Substitute "damn" every time you're inclined to write "very"; your editor will delete it and the writing will be just as it should be.
- It's no wonder that truth is stranger than fiction. Fiction has to make sense.
- The right word may be effective, but no word was ever as effective as a rightly timed pause.
- Now that is the way to write-- peppery and to the point. Mush-and-milk journalism gives me the fan-tods.
Mark Twain's wisdom continues to speak to writers today.
Let me know if you have a topic you'd like to see if Mark Twain said anything about.
