Samuel Clemens learned a lot on his travels. One thing he learned was how different cultures are and how they cannot be judged by the standards that apply at home.
It is easy to look at a different culture and say they are "backwards". It is much harder to learn why they do what they do.

I also like the one about the best way to get to know someone is to travel with them. Maybe people should go on their honeymoons BEFORE they get married?
