Is deporting the nations 13 million illegal aliens possible?

AP-Charles Schumer

On June24th 2009, New York Senator Charles Shumer, Chairman of the Senate Immigration Subcommittee, introduced a major seven point immigration policy objective. Among those initiatives was an amnesty provision. Senator Shumer put it this way; “All illegal aliens present in the United States on the date of enactment of our bill must quickly register their presence with the United States Government—and submit to a rigorous process of converting to legal status and earning a path to citizenship—or face imminent deportation.”

Since most Americans do not favor amnesty for illegals, it is no wonder that one of the leading political leaders in the United States Senate would be in favor of it. If you haven’t figured out by now that the will of the people is meaningless to these Democrat elitists, you have been living in a cave since the first bank was seized by the government last year.

Of course, everyone agrees that something must be done with the people who are here illegally. If amnesty is not going to be enacted, that essentially leaves two choices; do nothing and maintain the status quo, or begin deportation in earnest.

Liberals go convulsive at the mere mention of deportation, but I was wondering if it was actually practical. After consulting several authorities on the subject, I am convinced it is indeed a valid option, and the sooner the work begins, the sooner the problem will be solved.

Complete deportation could be achieved in the following ways

Strict worksite enforcement: Citizens and various websites are all too eager to identify workplaces that employ illegal aliens, yet the government remains reluctant to follow these leads in any meaningful way, and lacks the resources to do a credible job. In fact, trends show significant declines in enforcement for the past decade with minor upticks when the issue periodically reaches the front page.

This uneven enforcement must stop. If an employer knowingly hires an illegal alien, apprehension must be swift and accompanied by a significant punishment for the employer and immediate deportation for the alien.

Traffic stops: Instead of admonishing and harassing local law enforcement as the Department of Justice has done to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s office, the government could use this valuable resource to help apprehend those in the country illegally. Local and state law enforcement make 17 million traffic stops per year. A simple immigration status check on every stop could potentially yield a bonanza of arrests and deportations. One thing is for certain; we waste 17 million opportunities a year to apprehend these criminals.

Revise the “anchor baby” laws: Perhaps the most devastating and attractive aspect of immigration law violation is an interpretation of the 14th amendment which has been used as justification for immediate citizenship for children born to illegal aliens while on American soil. However, this provision was written to ensure that children of emancipated slaves could not be denied citizenship. By clarifying this interpretation, one of the primary motivations for entering the country illegally would be removed. It is within Congressional authority through legislation to restate that this provision does not apply to illegal immigrants.

These are but a few of the many proposals being discussed to address this threat to our financial well being as a nation, our security, and our culture. When the next phase of this debate arises, let us hope our leadership has the courage to discuss these and other ideas that will have a meaningful outcome.

William, I am in complete agreement. Law enforcement must be given authority to question and deport. The Justice Department and Homeland Security must take a hands-off approach to local enforcement. Lastly, there must be a physical barrier - a real fence, guarded 24/7 and strong disincentives for returning after deportation. Eliminate the anchor baby "entitlement". My mind simply cannot comprehend the liberal thought process. Illegals costs billions in emergency care, welfare, housing, law enforcement and education, not to metion taking jobs that more than nine precent of Amercica might find currently appealing. At a time of staggering deficits and unemployment about to top ten percent, how can the country - the country and not just democrats - possibly benefit from amnesty? I'll answer my own question... If 13 million are made citizens, maybe 25% will go to the bi-lingual ballots and vote for dems - exactly what they want. Do the math. It certainly isn't rocket scienc

The title itself answers the motive. But, taking into consideration the onesidedness of the analysis defeats the fact that economic reality comes into play when deciding a major policy that deals with these illegals. I'm in no way a liberal by brand but a human who understand the value of a person when it comes to economic viability of a nation. Try to ponder on using a rational way of thinking rather than emotional and hate-filled analysis of the situation. I agree that illegal immigration must be reduced if not stopped completely. Butin the real sense use these resources to harness their economic value rather than add to the the non-sense cost of deporting them.

So, if you round them up and deport them, who will fill our future labor shortage when the millions of Baby Boomers retire? This is something the conservatives never address.

I believe the government estimate is in the neighborhood of a 12 million worker short fall (even if the current illegal immigrants stay.) The need will be greatest in health care. Of course, we always need doctors and nurses, but low-level care givers (nursing home aides, orderlies, home health, hospice workers) also will be necessary to take care of the millions of boomers with dementia or chronic illnesses due to poor lifestyles.

I think the point is that 13 million people didn't all come here at once. If they came here in small groups they can be deported in small groups. I sense that once it was accepted that the government was serious, many of the illegal aliens would leave on their own accord.

Sure there's protected areas with higher costs of living, but the feds don't seem to recognize the results of their indifference to the illegal entry of those spanish speaking foreigners. Not only have they allowed the invasion, they force American tax payers to pay Billions on Billions of dollars to provide Welfare, Prison cells, Educate the invaders numerous children, and free medical care, At what consequence for their cheap labor cost are they destroying our schools, hospitals, communities, culture and standard of living? WOW, I'm amazed at YOUR total ignorance on the topic!! The point is that ALL countries (even the U.S.) have the sovereign RIGHT to decide who can be in the country. You are looking at this issue solely from the 'humanist' POV. These are people that are in violation of our laws and should NOT be granted any form of amnesty. Amnesty only creates a continuation of itself and does not lead toward a solution. Of course, your solution is to allow illegal aliens to either just simply remain (illegally) or to provide a legal status. So, in 10 years when the borders have never been made secure and there are another 10 million illegal aliens - what then?

Hmmm, how about the the 30 MILLION unemployed U.S. legal residents & citizens? The illegal aliens that you refer to in your comment wherein you state that they could become healthcare workers will require training, just who will pay for that training...you...the taxpayers?

In your suggested scenario, training for millions of illegal aliens should be paid for so that they can take care of you when you become demented or too fat to walk anymore?

Why would you want someone who we have no idea who they really are working in an industry that provides them access to drugs - and is entrusted to provide life-sustaining care to you when you are no longer able to. These jobs require either certification or licensing...should we certify or license people with unknown backgrounds?

You are BOTH wrong. Under 8USC1227, any alien present IN the U.S. in violation of the Immigration & Nationality Act is DEPORTABLE.

Also, while the enforcement of the INA is viewed as an 'administrative process', the Violator (illegal alien) has broken a FEDERAL law. Federal laws are NOT Misdemeanors.

Aliens are ONLY considered as applicants for admission when they present themselves at a designated port of entry and present the appropriate documentation to be reviewed by a lawfully designated official - which is ONLY a Custom & Border Protection Officer. Any other means or method of entry (Entry Without Inspection - EWI) renders the person as being Present Without Authorization (PWA). A person who is PWA is in the U.S. illegally (broken federal law), and are therefore deportable.

    Check your facts first!

If you actually look into the status of a person and their living arrangements on the applications for monies, you will see most of them probably are lying on some part of the application. and since its for federal monies, Im thinking that could be a violation of federal laws.

If you make it hard for these people to work, and they cant make money, they would probably sell what they didnt want to take back to mexico and self deport.

Larry Brown is right about ATTRITION THRU ENFORCEMENT, but he needs to expand on that for deportation and self-deportation to work. First, the number is 30 to 40 million illegals, maybe more. So drop that "12 million" figure, please.

Here is something that no one else seems to be discussing. The Governors of each state are the law enforcement leaders of each state. They can write EOs just as Bush and Obama have and they don't need their liberal legislatures to agree to them. If Ahnold and over "invaded state governors" were to get their fat butts from behind their desks and go on a press-covered speaking tour of their states, telling the illegals in their states to "get out in 90 days or face severe jail time" (with Spanish interpreters by their sides), the millions of illegals would be making a bee line for the Border. Those who own homes would be able to put them up for sale and be assured that the money from the sales would get to them, minus real estate fees. This is doable.

Since our politicians and bureaucrats have no problem with violating our laws in order to pander to illegals, it stands to reason our citizens have an equal right to violate our laws in order to target illegals. Once we make illegals fear more for their lives than lust for our jobs, housing, and welfare services then, and only then, will they return to their own countries.

    Illegal Immigration IS a crime.
Under Title 8 Section 1325 of the U.S. Code, "Improper Entry by Alien," any citizen of any country other than the United States who:
Enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers; or
Eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers; or
Attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact; has committed a federal crime.

Violations are punishable by criminal fines and imprisonment for up to six months. Repeat offenses can bring up to two years in prison. Additional civil fines may be imposed at the discretion of immigration judges, but civil fines do not negate the criminal sanctions or nature of the offense. An illegal alien is deportable if apprehended.

The 14th Amendment is currently misinterpreted to give citizenship to children born in the United States of illegal alien parents, which Congress can easily correct.

The 14th Amendment was ratified in 1868 to protect the rights of native-born Black Americans, whose rights were being denied as recently-freed slaves. In 1866, Senator Jacob Howard clearly spelled out the intent of the 14th Amendment by stating:
"Every person born within the limits of the United States, and subject to their jurisdiction, is by virtue of natural law and national law a citizen of the United States. This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States, but will include every other class of persons".

I only need to cite California, though I could cite almost anywhere in the U.S. where there is a large number of illegal aliens, that they never, ever, make up for all of the things they take.

If thirteen or thirty millions of them left, there would be stores closing, and some of the things you mentioned, but these things should not have existed to begin with. I'll give you an example. If Wall Streets criminal entreprise collapsed today, there would be some temporary difficulty, but since it's all built on the same kind of sham illegal immigration is built on, housing pyramid schemes, redistribution of Americans taxes away from Americans, and over to the Big Wall Street houses, or towards ILLEGAL ALIENS huge cost of social services,NOTHING WOULD FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE IN AMERICA, EXCEPT FOR THE BETTER.

Her decisions and actions as governor of Arizona were already a disaster which has now been compounded....Well, one good thing is that the latinos are so dissatisfied with Obama that they will guarantee he will not be re-elected...They have said as much....Hillary Clinton had to either be elected president or take an appointment such as she now has...Her total disaffection by the homosexual community in New York would have defeated her next bid for re-election as a Senator from New York...It is obvious from some of the comments that some new amendments to the constitution are in order...
