At a time when we are learning that angry blacks are inciting other blacks to murder "crackers" and their "cracker babies, it stands to reason that the NAACP would be focused on curbing racism. But it's not the very real, visceral racism of the New Black Panthers
that this once venerable but now antiquated organization is out to control. It's the imagined racism of the Tea Party movement.
Today, Michelle Obama delivered the keynote speech at the group's annual convention. Speaking of a need for blacks to "increase intensity," she attempted to whip up those assembled into a frenzy over "racial epithets" hurled by Tea Partyers and verbal abuse that they visited on black members of Congress. She spoke impassionedly about signs and posters members of the group displayed that were intended to degrade people of color.
By way of evidence to support her allegations, the First Lady and sometime attorney brought with her—absolutely nothing. Not a photograph of one of those degrading signs, not a recording of the alleged racial insults that were supposedly leveled.
As to the charges that Tea Partyers verbally attacked Congress members on racial grounds, Andrew Breitbart has offered a $100,000 reward to anyone who comes forward with tangible proof of these verbal assaults. That's easy money for anyone who was present with a cameraphone or other recording device on the day when Congress crammed its health care reform package down the throats of Americans, then went outside among a disapproving crowd to gloat. Surely by now someone would have claimed the reward.
Some evidence would certainly have made Michelle Obama's call to action seem less hollow-sounding. Certainly, a word on the hate speech spewed by blacks toward whites in recent days—plenty of it captured on video—would have made her appear at least informed if not out and out fair.
Dale Robertson, of TeaParty.org, reacted to the speech and to the NAACP's plan to mount a "couter-offensive" in August. "[T]he NAACP should be standing against the New Black Panthers and their stance," he said. "And yet instead of doing the right thing, they're doing the wrong thing by attacking people who feel government should be held accountable."
Nor do all blacks accept the fabulous view that the Tea Party is fundamentally racist. In April, Angela McGlowan, a black Tea Party member from Mississippi who is running for Congress, told the Associated Press that her involvement is "not about a black or white issue. It's not even about Republican or Democrat, from my standpoint. All of us are taxed too much."
Other black Tea Partyers have been branded Oreos, traitors, and Uncle Toms. One of them is Timothy F. Johnson, who chairs the Frederick Douglass Foundation, a group of black conservatives that support free market principles and limited government. "I've been told I hate myself," Johnson is quoted as saying. I've been called an Uncle Tom. I've been told I'm a spook at the door."
Curiously, Michelle Obama was silent about these Jim Crow tactics embraced by blacks.

As a conservative, it is frustrating that Mrs. Obama's comments are being so grossly taken out of context. When this happens to conservative speakers, we are outraged and yet articles like this persist. Let's stop looking for reasons to get mad and focus on real problems. Mrs. Obama called for an increase in intensity to brighten the future for blacks...not a bad call. I applaud the first lady even as I detest her husband.

What in the world are you babbling on about? Michelle Obama has stayed out of politics to advocate for children and healthy eating? She is talking to black people to tell them as an advocacy group they should be getting their children to lose weight by eating less sugar and getting more exercise.
