When it comes to Friday Night Magic; very few stores do it better than Past Present Future Comics Superstore on Military Trail in West Palm Beach.
FNM’s main function is that of game enjoyment and game/rule teaching. If anyone ever tells you “It was a typical Friday night playing Magic.” Make sure you give them that questioning look you are so famous for. If only one thing holds true when it comes to FNM—nothing about it is typical.
FNM live at Past Present Future Comics on Nov. 06, 2009.
With 16 people signed up and ready to play, Matt Melnyk and Adam Veal gave the call to begin. Matt, being the Event Coordinator for Past Present Future sets up the Swiss Rounds and keeps a close eye on the competition. Adam, the stores Veteran and Proxy-Judge, makes sure that if anyone has a question, they can get an answer. Adam also gets the added bonus of playing. Why can’t we all be so lucky?

When the bell tolled, two full 8 person tables began their draft with yours truly present and playing. It was, as all drafts go, left right left. The Army never had it so good. With my Draft Formula in mind and visions of grandeur driving my choices, I picked what I felt was not the best, but not a bad deck to play. Turns out it was a little better than expected and drew me a second place finish. (see deck list below)
However the nights star was none other than Boynton Beach’s own, Tim Wegman. His Black/Blue deck (see deck list below) went unparalleled and unbeaten all night long. Through 4 Swiss Rounds, Tim managed to Control and Destroy each opponent sitting across from him—myself included.
It was Tim’s deck that arose to the top and decimated all comers. When asked about his deck, Tim’s first word was “Tempo.” His casting flow and creature evolvement was continuous and solid. When he was not casting a creature, he was removing one from the battlefield.
“The bouncing, killing, countering, and creature combo’s I had made the difference.” Tim said.
It was Tim’s ability to call on multiple sources for answers that made this deck the true, ‘Champion of the Draft.’
For his victory, Tim won 8 Zendikar Booster Packs and a Foil DCI® Oblivion Ring.
Congratulations Tim Wegman.

And congratulations go out to Ashley for snatching half of the winnings from Tim with little to no effort. Tim and Ashley can be found at the tables each Friday night Drafting at Past Present Future Comics. See! Girls do play Magic.
