My Top 3 Favorite Affluent towns in New Jersey

Famous Devil's Tower in Alpine, NJ

New Jersey is the richest state in America, which means it is home to numerous affluent towns. These towns, which are mostly located in North Jersey, have large homes and residents who make over $60,000.

Here are my Top 3 Favorite Affluent New Jersey Towns:

1. Alpine, NJ - With a population of just over 2,000 residents, this quaint little town is located close to NYC. The town was recently named the most expensive zip code in America with a median home sale price of $3.4 million. The town is home to numerous celebrities such as P.Diddy, Lil'Kim, and Chris Rock. There are currently about 4 huge homes being built in the area and over 40 homes that are currently listed on the NJ MLS. Alpine is home to Rio Vista, an exclusive development made up of 20 or more homes. The largest home in New Jersey which measures a whopping 60,000 square feet is located in in Rio Vista.

2. Saddle River, NJ - The most expensive home on the market in New Jersey is located in Saddle River. It is a $27.5 French Chateau located on Trailside Place. Saddle River is home to the likes of Rev Run from DMC, Hip Hop Mogul Russell Simmons, and the Queen of Hip-Hop Mary J Blige. Mary J Blige owns a $12 million, 18,000 square foot mansion on one of Saddle River's most prestigious streets, East Saddle River Road. Saddle River is a peaceful town that is filled with newly constructed mansions every which way you turn.

3. Mendham, NJ -  Mendham has been one of my favorite towns ever since I was little. It is comprised of large estates that are spread out over acres of land. It is such a peaceful town that mixes old and new money and is home to the likes of Neil Cavuto and Whitney Houston. As you drive through Mendham, you see rolling hills and large estate homes on top of them. Charolais Farms Road is one of most prestigious streets in Mendham. It is home to a 20,000+ square foot mansion that is simply amazing. It contains massive chimney stacks that can be seen from far away.

    You're a joke.

you're a joke MOOTAH, did he say that he liked those towns because of the rappers.. no he was simply stating the fact that they live there. I don't recall " I like these towns because rappers live here" in the post. Get a life, oh and some class !

yeah, why don't you closely read the article. The reason all of those "rappers" are listed is because that is where they live and they are the most famous residents of that town. It's not my fault a bunch of rappers chose to live in some of the wealthiest towns in the country

I'm new to this site. Is a smaller town automatically better for these evaluations because it is all based on averages? A population of 2000 isn't even a street, let alone a town. If your town doesn't have a train stop, it's not a real town. And if that train stop isn't on the Peapack-Gladstone branch, it doesn't deserve to be on this site.

I stumbled on this site by accident while looking for an aerial view of a home my mother just purchased in Rumson, NJ. Rumson is by far the wealthiest as far as the residents here. Other towns may have higher median home prices, but that's simply because the tacky nuveau riche build these tacky, cheaply built Mega McMansions and think they can buy their way into society and certain lifestyles. Rumson is full of great history, historic mansions built by prominent, historic families. It's a playground for the wealthy in the summer, and home to the on-going clash of new money vs. old money the rest of the year. My family has lived and/or owned homes here for generations, and feel as though it's the true Great American Suburb. The truly elite still live in their turn-of-the-century estates with acres of land, not just a small subdivided half-acre plot that was once part of a large manor. It's sad what's happening to this town. Thanks god for gates and tall hedges.

Also, if you were a true fan of luxury, taste, and great architecture, you'd be focusing more on the grand estates and summer cottages of Newport, Rhode Island... the original manors of the Hamptons... the turn-of-the-century limestone mansions of the Upper East Side of Manhattan and Rittenhouse Square of Philadelphia...you'd research Whitemarsh Hall in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania...visit and sneak into the grand gardens and manor of The Gibraltar Mansion in Wilmington, Delaware....you'd go to Paris and spend a week admiring Versailles...take a road trip to the Biltmore Estate to marvel at what the Vanderbilts accomplished (and for good food and wine tasting)... It seems to me as though you just go to Bing Maps, type in rich zip codes, and copy and past pictures of birds' eye views of the most atrocious monstrosities I've ever seen. Just because a home is over 12,000 square feet doesn't mean it was a) built well or b) decorated tastefully. The older estates have more character and class.
