Enjoy more than just tapas at Martine in SLC

Nearly a decade before Meditrina or Eva entered the Salt Lake City dining scene, Martine—opened in 1999—was serving up ground-breaking tapas in a beautiful brownstone in downtown Salt Lake.

And just like a true leader should, Salt Lake’s original tapas bar is still raising the bar. Martine has forged a strong relationship with diners for both lunch and dinner. Featuring strikingly different menus for each meal, sandwiches and salads dominate the lunch menu while tapas and meat-centered entrees get center stage at dinner.

At lunch, all of the sandwich combinations are served with a choice of house pasta salad, green salad or fresh fruit. For a $1.50 more, you can substitute French onion soup, half serving of the pasta salad of the day or soup of the day. Some favorite sandwiches are the Italian chicken ($8.50), roast beef panini ($8.95) and salmon ($8.95), but the hands down best sandwich is a vegetarian option—the portobello ($8.50) with roasted red pepper, mozzarella, caramelized onions and a caper mayonnaise. (Don’t order this one if you are eating with clients who you want to impress because it is kind of messy but don’t pass it up unless you have to. It is amazing.)

Equally impressive is the portobello and white bean salad ($8.95) with artichoke hearts, fresh mozzarella, roma tomatoes, nicoise olives and pine nuts. What Chef Tom Grant and Martine does to their portobello mushrooms before grilling them is a true work of genius. The Southwest chicken salad is also a perennial favorite.

Owned by The Pub Group that also brings us Desert Edge Pub, Red Butte Café and Stella Grill, Martine has a very impressive wine list by the glass and by the bottle at reasonable prices. If you’ve missed dining at Martine in the past, make a special visit, it will be a worthy dining experience.
