LSU lands consensus top 10 recruiting class

National signing day was last Wednesday and what was thought to be a slow finish for the Tigers ended with some high fives and chest bumps at the end of the day. The class of 2010 features 27 players signed with two commitments still awaiting word on their status.

The Tigers filled some much needed holes in their roster especially on the offensive side of the football. Four running backs were signed led by five-star Spencer Ware from Cincinnati, Ohio to help fill the void left by seniors Charles Scott, Keiland Williams, and Trindon Holiday.

At wide receiver, the Tigers got some good news from the 12th ranked wide receiver according to Rivals.com in Ocala, Florida native Kadron Boone. He originally gave a verbal commitment to Texas Tech, but after Coach Mike Leach was fired, Boone opened back up his recruitment and Coach Billy Gonzales pulled the right strings to get him to Baton Rouge. Boone joins James Wright, Armand Williams, and Jarrett Fobbs as LSU’s newest receiving threats.

Defensively, LSU coaches made it a point to get some defensive line help and add some athletes to their back seven. Heading the list was defensive end Ego Ferguson, a surprise signee that let his intentions known on national television from New York. He chose the Tigers over an impressive list of offers from around the country. Also added the mix was local product Eric Reid from Dutchtown and Ronnie Vinson from New Orleans.

A complete list of the signees can be seen here.

**Wednesday was also very special as we welcomed the class of 2028 hopeful John Ryan Morse to this world. 8lbs 8oz of pure purple and gold.**

LSU Men’s Basketball still searching for their first SEC win

The LSU Men’s basketball team took on two of the SEC’s best this past week when they played host to #14Tennessee at the PMAC on Thursday and #4 Kentucky on Saturday. The Tigers played Tennessee right to the wire but mistakes plagued the team once again and they dropped a close one 59-54. Saturday’s matchup with Kentucky was not quite as close. In fact, it was a total mismatch. The Wildcats were way too much for the outmanned Tigers as they walked away with an 81-55 victory.

The Tigers are still searching for their first SEC win of the year. LSU does not want to become the first team since Georgia Tech in 1954 to go winless in league play. There are seven games remaining on the schedule and hopefully they can put a complete game together and come up with a victory.

There’s a new jersey hanging from the rafters in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Two-time All American Rudy Macklin had his jersey hang next to the LSU greats during the game against Kentucky on Saturday afternoon. Macklin is LSU’s all-time leading rebounder and second leading scorer, behind only the great Pistol Pete Maravich.

LSU Baseball fine tuning things before the start of the season

The LSU Baseball team has been hitting the field with preparations for their season opener against Centenary on February 19th. The starting lineup is coming together, but nothing is set in stone with Coach Paul Mainieri and his staff. The key battles will be at the DH spot and with the weekend rotation aside from Friday night starter Anthony Ranaudo. There will be some new faces throughout the lineup, but from all accounts, the new faces are playing well in preseason practices and scrimmages.

Alex Box Stadium is also getting a new addition to the right field as the Intimidator will grace the skyline with its newest addition; the 2009 National Championship.

There is a good write up on the position players on Tigerdroppings.com.

Very nice article. I feel very positive about our recruiting class! I do however, have a weird feeling that John Ryan could turn out to be an Ole Miss fan.
