Plain and simple; 4, 400 calorie meals?
Nov 18, 2009
On tomorrow's episode of the Rachael Ray show, one guest will discuss how she lost 6 pounds in two days on this new diet plan called the "400-Calorie fix." The basis behind this diet is to consume 4 meals consisting of 400 calories each with little regard to what is in each meal. The details of the diet will be released soon in a book from the company that produces the Prevention health magazine which are reported to include "400 ideas, recipes and tips for what to eat when you're cooking for yourself, dining out, running through the drive-through or stopping by your favorite coffee place for a quick, on-the-go breakfast."
The basic idea behind the diet is solid and makes sense; 4 smaller meals throughout the day keep your metabolism going all day and should help you with portion control as well. While I'm not sure 1,600 calories will be the correct amount for each person to achieve their weight loss goals much less 6 pounds in two days, it is a starting point where you can get a baseline on your caloric intake and determine if this plan will work for you. You can apply the same basic principle to your low carb diet and break your meals into 4, 5 or even 6 smaller meals during the day and keep your metabolism charged up all day long.
While this diet focuses on counting calories and a low carb plan like Atkins focuses on counting carbs; the core principle of the diet will no doubt help thousands of people lose weight. Most anyone that is currently eating 2,500 calories a day who changes their eating regime to 1,600 a day will no doubt lose weight. Hopefully, dieters will use their 400 calories wisely instead of eating 4 100-calorie snack packs for a meal. Be sure to check out the show and post your thoughts back here. If you decide to try out the diet, we would love to hear about your success!

Comments
As long as there are substantial amounts of carbs in those 400 calories those 400 Calorie a Day dieters will promptly gain the weight back as soon as the stop dieting, or they will be chained to their treadmills to keep it off.
Low carbers can eat much higher calories and keep the weight off without the constant nagging starvation of low fat moderate carb dieters.
