It is being reported today that the divorce between Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren was finalized yesterday in Bay County Circuit Court, Florida.
The couple will be involved in shared parenting. And the Washington Post says that no other details were released but that they have links to copies of court papers from TMZ. You can read these in PDF form. Divorce is final, but can they move on?
As I wrote on August 10th in the news we are still seeing completely speculative reports based on leaks regarding who gets what. But the more important question is this -- why do we care?
First: who gets what? As I have stated often until court papers are filed and made public, we simply do not know the truth. Despite the speculation about the Florida homes, some of us are wondering about the other homes in 4 states. Divorce is a tricky business and anything can happen in the final deal.
What Tiger Woods is reported to have cared most about are his children and it appears that the couple will share responsibility for them.
Why do we care?
We care because divorce has become so much a part of our culture, and sadly so, the public seems to have an insatiable desire to know the details of celebrity divorce.
In many ways it is a stage view of what takes place in the lives those living on Main Street. With all of the charged feelings that occur with division of property, reading about the trials and tribulations of others often falls into the 'misery loves company' category. But unfortunately people also fall into the "take what you can get" mode.
A better method is to try to resolve one's differences or at least come to the table with a spirit of cooperation, particularly when children are involved.

It's about time, perhaps he'll start playing better golf. Then again, I've been really enjoying watching the LPGA. I do not condone what Tiger did, but he certainly made men's golf more enjoyable when he was winning.
Glad for Elin, and I hope she got big bucks. He can't even golf anymore, too bad! Haha!

This certainly has taken a long time. Glad this is over and that they are sharing custody. That is the most important part.

Good Article, Rita. Sorry to see any marriage end - especially one with small children. I wish them both the best and believe their main concern is the children and as to what the rest of the public needs to know it is really none of our business.
