Is there a difference? In the art world, yes. A person who is stark naked, let's say, is someone who is usually wearing no clothes at all.
A nude on the other hand, is thought to be a model posing with a fabric draping in some sensual way.
When photos of the French President's wife surfaced, an interesting debate occured in the press. In talking about another Carla Bruni nude photo The St. Petersburg Times said: "Naked versus nude may seem like a small, irrelevant distinction in a debate over the propriety of the photograph's sale.
"But those two words represent important and very different ways not only in how we look at an image but how we judge its value and the value of those involved in its creation.
