AP/ Richard Drew

Everyone loves gossip and we want it to be true and juicy. What is the truth about Matt Lauer and why is his story still in the news despite denials all the way around?  The National Enquirer is not backing down.

Today in Breaking News they are reporting on Matt and Natalie Morales and also say: "The marriage turmoil has a desperate Lauer, 52, secretly hammering out a $50 million divorce-delay deal designed to maintain his family-man image on the NBC Today show, say sources." THE SECRET LIFE of MATT LAUER

This is what FOX News reported: NBC's Today show has assailed allegations of infidelity about Matt Lauer, calling them "completely inaccurate and unfounded."

"Have we had a completely perfect, easy marriage? No. But the stories you've read over the years are not true," Lauer told People. "I don't think we're any different than any married couple that's been together for 12 years. The accusations [of infidelity] are ridiculous and I'm not going to [dignify] them with an answer. It's not true." Today Calls Matt Lauer Allegations "Completely Inaccurate

With John Edwards, no one wanted to believe the rumors and the Enquirer stories that turned out to be true.  For Matt Lauer no one wants to believe the rumors and are hoping that they turn out to be false.

Matt Lauer and Me

In the spirit of full disclosure, I like Matt Lauer and as always, I am rooting for the family.  He interviewed me during one of my appearances on the Today Show -- that interview is linked within this piece: Choose happiness, save your marriage after infidelity, and fight fairly

Tips: If you are someone you love is in the midst of an infidelity quandary -- real or suspected:

  • Seek qualified help from credentialed experts (Ask about educational background, professional organizations related to the field of marriage and/or infidelity, articles in national professional publications, books reviewed and endorsed by national experts, and a license)
  • Ignore hyped up stories of revenge (only you are hurt in the long run)
  • Review in your mind, the positive aspects of your relationship
  • Follow the advice of the Executive Director of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy -- TALK to your spouse and as he points out -- never, never stoop to snooping

The more I read  misinformation regarding infidelity, the more determined I become to get the truth out Authoritative national resources inspire Infidelity Fast Facts.

Where do I come off with giving such advice? Over 10 years as Policy and Education Director at Yale's Departments of Psychology and Psychiatry and a Public Health Degree from the Yale School of Medince.  My work focused on family-centered programs and we conducted research held to strictly regulated protocols .  As such, I am aware of the vital importance for couples facing a possible infidelity crisis to receive help from trained professionals.

Very interesting stuff... I wonder why Matt and the Today show would go to such great length to keep it a secret if he really is divorcing his wife. The truth is going to come out, and one would think that telling lies would do a lot more harm to "Today" than having an anchor who cheated on his wife. So far I'm casting my vote for Matt. Time will tell. - Mykal

I don't understand why peoples' personal lives/affairs have to have an affect on their jobs. One should not have anything to do with the other. An affair, wrong as it is, should remain private and not broad casted on the air or change the status of ones employment.

I used to think the National Enquirer was just a joke, but not after they broke the Edwards story. They may be on to something!
