Proposed LOST-themed Disney attraction

Finally, a brilliant idea on how to make LOST live on after the end of Season 6. Darlton said it, themselves (actually, this is a Carlton Cuse quote, but you get the idea):

LOST is a powerful franchise, and Disney (the parent-company of ABC) would be crazy not to continue it in some way.

The writers have confirmed that they will not be involved once their story is finished, and Darlton has said more than once that they will not take the path of Twin Peaks and the X-Files and create a LOST movie.

So where do fans go from here? To create a huge buzz for a LOST-themed Disney attraction, of course!

Jon Stueve, a LOST fan since the very beginning, has watched every episode as it aired and re-watched several the day after. Like most junkies (no offense intended here as I include myself among the addicted), he spent many a “morning after” kibitzing LOST theories at the office. Jon grew up in Southern California, visiting Disneyland many times and exploring Tom Sawyer Island as a kid. Although beloved, that island is outdated – and as is often the case at Disney parks: it’s out with the old and in with the new!

Currently part of Frontierland at both Disneyland (in California) and Walt Disney World (in Florida), Tom Sawyer Island is a prime choice to be transformed into the LOST island and a full-blown LOST experience. At least if Stueve gets his way.

Near the end of Season 5 of LOST, Stueve became active on Twitter (@LOST_WFTB, which stands for LOST: Watch From The Beginning), started following other LOST fans, and hatched the idea of a Twitter-based re-watch of all previous episodes as a way to keep the LOST fires burning during the excessively long hiatus. His efforts got noticed by Jeff "Doc" Jensen (@EWDocJensen) who writes LOST articles for Entertainment Weekly.

In a random tweeted conversation between Stueve and someone he follows, photos of Disneyland led to the statement, “Let me know when they’ve made Tom Sawyer Island into Dharma Island.” Having it out there, Stueve thought the idea was 1) humorous, and 2) had potential, so he made another public tweet. He was flabbergasted when Doc Jensen tweeted back, “I TOTALLY SECOND LOST_WFTB’s CALL FOR TURNING TOM SAWYER ISLAND AT DISNEYLAND INTO #LOST ISLAND! GET ON THAT, DISNEY!”

Jensen tweeted again, “LOST_WFTB: Seriously, dude. Start a petition. I’ll help promote it. We’ll get this done. I have no doubt Mighty Disney will bow to our will.” Stueve was floored that Jensen was not only reading his tweets, but replying. With a little online help, the LOST Themed Disney Attraction petition was born, and is now awaiting your signature!

Damon Lindelof mentioned the petition effort at the LOST Underground Art Project event. He is signing it – you should too. Lindelof (@DamonLindelof) even tweeted back to Jensen with, “@EWDocJensen — Carlton and I have been pushing to get a damn polar bear on Tom Sawyer Island for YEARS!!!!”

Write your congressman … nah, that won’t work. Write to Disney and let them know that millions of rabid LOST fans who watch the ABC network every week could one day be pouring their money into Disney parks to live the LOST experience. When the final season is over, and the LOST Auction has come and gone, viewers will flock to Disney to get their LOST “fix.” Imagine taking your family to the beach site of the Oceanic crash or the caves where many survivors moved; into the Hatch to visit the Swan Station; through the Dharma barracks; up close and personal with the Smoke Monster; through the island ruins, Jacob’s cabin, and the statue of Tawaret; on a submarine ride to Pala Ferry; and directly to the Frozen Donkey Wheel beneath the Orchid Station.

Sign the petition, brutha.  Make your voice heard.  And when the attraction is built, I’ll see you there.

Pretty lame. The Show Lost is going out of business... In a few years No one will remember the name so why should it get its own attraction?

Disney will NEVER use an idea from an outside source.

"Like most junkie’s" 's is possessive, not plural, so...junkie's...what, exactly?

There are a lot of people out there that have never watched Lost. I actually only know a handfull of people who still watch it. Disney would be stupid to change the name of Tom Sawyers Island to Lost Island. This will never happen. Lost is a TV show that is almost over. Besides Tom Sawyers Island is more for kids than adults, you make it Lost Island and it will not be for kids anymore. Stupid idea!

Spanky: Are you saying Tom Sawyer was a Disney character?

CA girl: when is the last time you witnessed a child rush to Tom Sawyers Island over anything in Toontown or Tomorrowland? Hell, even Jungle Cruise is more popular.

that being said, this is a fun thought, and I signed, but it'll never happen. One can dream though.

I am not saying that Tom Sawyer Island is the most popular attraction for kids. It also really needs updating. But everytime I go do Disneyland, we try once a year, there are always kids playing on the Island. Update the Island yes, but change it completley and to something after an adult's TV show, no. Disneyland is for kids and adults that want to be a kid for a day. How may kids watch Lost?

I'm a teenager and Tyler, I LOVE tom sawyer island. srry, pirates lair. I loved it more when I could find jack sparrow on it! my few suggestions: put it as a seperate attraction- a tropical island in the rivers of america.. no. better yet, put it in CA adventure, its under construction anyways! Plus that isn't as much for children. Fantasmic wouldn't have to close, an original would stay an original, and it wouldn't become an adult attraction.

How would Lost fit in to a land themed to the 1800s? Disney wouldn't do this. It's not marketable anyways. The series is almost done.

@Adam, people were saying that 'bout that newfangled StarTrek show too.

At adam/naysayers, you are obviously wrong. Lost is something that will not go away in a few years but will be remembered probably for centuries to come. Just rewatch the first season on dvd if you've forgotten how great the show is, your in a very small unpopular minority. And I think this is something that should happen immediately. That is wasted space that could very well fit this idea which would become another focal attraction. I mean do you like Finding Nemo that much? no? but they have plenty of rides based on it. Are you saying that movie will be more remembered than tv show lost? I don't think so.

Thanks for the catch, Punctuation nazi. The change has been made.

Forgive me for picking back, but shouldn't nazi be capitalized? :)

Sorry Spanky - it isn't an outside source as Disney is ABC's parent company. They already own LOST and will likely find a way to capitalize on that even after the show goes off the air.
