Sayid Jarrah
If everyone on Lost plays a part; Jack is the leader, Kate is his number two, and Sayid is the muscle. He is also their greatest hope for getting rescued. The technology-savvy soldier is always playing around with gadgets from the plane and any new pieces of electronics that fall into their hands with the hope of sending out a distress call. Sayid is a kind person whom most everyone respects but whenever there is danger, expect Sayid to be the first to fight back with his fists.
Reason for travel: Sayid was reunited with and fell in love with his childhood friend, Nadia when he was interrogating her for the Iraqi Republican Guard. With his help, she escaped and hid herself away. Sayid was searching for her for many years when he discovered she was living in L.A. He was on his way to meet her when the plane crashed.
Flashbacks: Sayid worked as a communications officer and tortured people for the Iraqi Republican Guard. But when it was Nadia he had to torture, he couldn't bring himself to do it so he set her free. He began a long search for her and eventually he was picked up by the CIA. They told him in exchange for his help, they would tell him where Nadia was. Sayid brought down a terrorist organization which included his college friend. the mission was hard on him, but finally he knew where to find his love.
Island life: Though Sayid is not considered to be the fearless leader, he is working the hardest at rescuing his people. On their first days on the island, Sayid worked with the transceiver to send out a distress call, set out to map out the island and was captured by Rousseau, the French woman who recorded the 16 year old distress call. She is a regular visitor and has helped the survivors with her knowledge of the island and "the others". Sayid also took a detour from Nadia when he fell in love with Shannon. The two were happy together until Shannon was accidentally killed by Ana Lucia, on of the "Tailies".
Post-island life: Sayid is one of the Oceanic Six and was actually the first (along with Desmond) to get off the island and onto the rescue boat. After an Oceanic press conference, Nadia tracked him down and the two married. Their happiness was short lived however, because Nadia was murdered. Now Sayid is working as Ben's personal hit man. Things aren't looking good for Sayid.
Fun fact: Naveen Andrews (who plays Sayid) was the only one to try out for the part. It must have been love at first audition.
