How many cars, when placed in a lettered row in a high school parking lot, does it take to spell out the letter "L" in the name Longmont? Five. How many does it take to spell out Longmont? Forty-four. Add the word "Google" and you need a total of 82 cars.

That is how many cars two of the event organizers, Tom Sheffield and Payton Peterson, calculated they need to form the words, in addition to the car's drivers and passengers (dressed in preferably red shirts) to hold red signs and form a heart shape, to be seen in a picture taken from space.

This morning, they met up with a group of residents and a pair of representatives from Longmont City Council in the parking lot of Silver Creek High School to discuss and plan out the formation of creating a visual of "Longmont ♥ Google" that will be viewed by Longmont based Digital Globe's satellite when it flies overhead on Friday. They have a two minute window to say 'cheese' for the photo op, which will occur between 12:27-12:29pm, when Digital Globe's satellite is positioned over that particular spot in Longmont and takes pictures.

Volunteers are asked to RSVP at the below links and be at the Silver Creek High School parking lot at 11am this Friday to set up. After the event, a pizza party will be held to thank all who show up to help. (click here for the Google map to the school)

Google is planning to launch an experiment to bring better and faster Internet access to everyone. They are looking for a community to partner with to test ultra-high speed broadband networks. Longmont feels there  simply is no better location on the planet than Longmont, Colorado for Google to build its first open access fiber to the home ultra high speed broadband network. Representatives from Ridgeview Tel, Vince and Melinda Jordan, who are residents as well as supporters of Longmont's plans to bring Google Fiber to Longmont, were at this mornings planning meeting to support the community effort.

Many of Longmont's citizens think all the efforts done before this planned event in the application process to secure Longmont's bid for Google's high speed fiber optic line give them a very good chance in Google's contest. To add to that, organizers of the planned photo shoot from space think this adds a fun element and yet another way for the community to continue to be involved in the process that will remind Google just how much Longmont means it and intends to stay on Google's radar.  Read the press release from the City of Longmont.

'The cars must align' to make it happen...all 82 of them. If you live in Longmont and would like to volunteer for this history making event, please respond at either of the two below links. Organizers would like as many cars and people as you can provide to show up to ensure this is a success for Longmont.
