
Longmont Lights 2009 has tons of free things for people to enjoy. Below is the calendar for this years event. It will kick off tomorrow night with a fun run for all ages, followed by the annual lighting of the Christmas tree. Kody Lostroh, Longmont native and PBR Bull Riding World Champion will be on hand to help light the tree!
Also be sure to lookout for the Longmont Examiner, who will be walking the parade route on the 12th with the CHIL group handing out coupons for the ice rink! (For more information about the Longmont Ice Pavilion, click here!)
Friday, December 4
Downtown Tree Lighting & Festivities: 6 to 8 pm
Celebrate the kick-off of the holiday season downtown.
Enjoy the Reindeer Dash at 6 pm. The Dash is a FREE event for all ages - no pre-registration necessary, just show up! From 5:30-5:50pm there will be gift bags and Reindeer Dash registration available at the Dickens Tavern Patio at 300 Main Street. Miss the registration? No problem, just join in! The dash will start at 3rd and Main Street and proceed north to 6th and main. Line up facing north at 3rd Ave and Main Street for the starting jingle bell. Reindeer antlers or other holiday garb are highly encouraged. The LDDA will be awarding $20 Downtown Longmont Gift Cards to a few lucky participants.
When the dash is over at approximately 6:15, watch the annual lighting of the tree. Then enjoy many activities such as fire dancers, street performers, a pony carousel, wagon and cart rides, carolers, and bagpipers. Visit Santa at the Used Book Emporium, a spiced nut and beverage vendor, and the many merchant open houses. Saturday, December 5
Gingerbread House Competition Viewing and Judging: 9 to 11 am at the Senior Center.
Houses will be available for viewing from 9 to 11 am; judging takes place from 10 to 11 am.
Charles Dickens: A Chautauqua Performance by David Skipper: 3 to 4 pm
Longmont Public Library Meeting Rooms (409 4th Avenue). The Friends of the Library are pleased to host David Skipper as Charles Dickens. Mr. Dickens will talk about his life and work and the novel of the season, A Christmas Carol. The program is free; seating is limited to the first 100 guests. Wednesday, December 9
Holiday Ice Show: 6:30 to 7:30 pm
This free show will feature instructors and pros from the Denver area. Stop by and watch the skaters perform at the Longmont Ice Pavilion, 725 8th Avenue. Open, free skating and skate rental will follow the show’s completion until 9 pm. For regular rink hours and fees call (303) 774-4777.

Longmont Lights in Roosevelt Park: 5 to 8 pm
Sounds of the Holidays at the Senior Center, 5:30 to 8 pm. Enjoy the sounds of many of our local, talented community members who share their skills with voice and instruments.
Night Parachute Drop and Antique Airplane Display: 7 pm
Santa’s Workshop: 5 to 8 pm
Visit Santa and his workshop on this magical evening. Make holiday ornaments and play in his workshop. This parent/child activity is geared for children ages 10 and under. Be sure to bring your camera.
Hot Cocoa Carts: 5 to 8 pm
Enjoy a free cup of hot cocoa from one of the hot cocoa carts in Roosevelt Park. Sponsored by Longmont Meals on Wheels.
Carriage Rides: 5 to 8 pm
Take an old-fashioned carriage around Old Town Longmont. Carriage rides begin and end on the east side of the Longmont Senior Center. Sponsored by Peaceful Valley Ranch.
Mini Train Rides: 5 to 8 pm
Twin Peaks Mall provides this entertainment for parents and children under 8 years old. Pick up the train at the north end of Roosevelt Park by the pavilion.
Reindeer Visit: 5 to 8 pm
Fire Pits, Carolers: 5 to 8 pm
Visit the warmth of the fire pits as you walk around Roosevelt Park and see the millions of lights sparkle! Li’l Phil’s Wings & Pizza will provide free wings from 5 to 8 pm. Nicolo’s will provide free samples from 5 to 8 pm.

Saturday , December 12
Parade line-up begins at 4pm along the streets of Longs Peak Avenue and Bross Street.
From 3 to 5 pm, enjoy watching Jeff Parrish sculpt ice blocks in front of the Memorial Building into snow flakes.
3pm set up ice blocks in front of Memorial Building; 4pm - 5:30pm start carving (snow flakes); 6pm - Finished piece on viewing after parade
Warm up before and during the parade with a cup of hot cider or coffee, (south side of the Memorial Building by the ice sculpture exhibit), where the Rom Insurance Team, Lindsay Rom and Lauri Martinez, will be providing complimentary child ID kits. Stop by and enter to win a $75 gift certificate from the Dickens Tavern, a great new restaurant that offers comfort food with a twist!

This year’s theme is “Musical Notes & Holiday Floats.” Main Street will be illuminated with more than 60 floats twinkling with lights.Come watch this magical parade filled with marching toy soldiers, high school marching bands, ice castles, 12-ft. balloons, costumed characters and much more. Sponsored by US Bank. Grand Marshal is Bill Wilkinson.
Longmont All Star Jazz Band: 6:45 to 8 pm
Under the direction of Bill Wilkinson, this group will delight listeners.
Mini Train Rides: 5 to 8 pm
Twin Peaks Mall provides this entertainment for parents and children under 8 years old. Pick up the train at the north end of Roosevelt Park by the pavilion.
Fireworks: 6:30 pm
Fireworks will fill the air at Roosevelt Park (north end of the St. Vrain Memorial Building) immediately following the parade.
