Thurston Moore, frontman for seminal New York rock band Sonic Youth, has worked extensively in plenty of music-related ventures within and outside his band. Moore has composed original music for films, written reviews of new music and released three solo albums, which include 2007's “Trees Outside the Academy”.
In 1981 Moore started record label Ecstatic Peace, taking its name from a line in Tom Wolfe's novel, “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test”. The label has released countless albums throughout the years, including fellow New York bands, Religious Knives and Pagoda – the latter of which contains actor Michael Pitt.
Recently, Moore announced plans to start his own publishing company that, continuing in the tradition of his record label, will be called Ecstatic Peace Library. Beginning in 2010, the upcoming releases will include books by wife and band-mate, Kim Gordon, as well as Raymond Pettibon, famous for his classic drawings for Black Flag in the 1980s.
Thurston Moore is no stranger to books, having worked as art director and editor on various publications, including 'No Wave: Post-Punk. Underground. New York' and the recently released photography book, 'Grunge'.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Ecstatic Peace Library's initial releases will be available on the publisher's official website on January 1, 2010.
