When it's 2 degrees Fahrenheit outside, bears are supposed to be hibernating. But last night, the Little Bear Saloon in Evergreen, Colorado was wide awake.
With his unique blend of Cajun blues-rock, Tab Benoit played to an eager, standing-room only crowd who had braved the elements to see the show. Accompanied only by a bass and drummer, Benoit stayed busy with his guitar and bluesy vocals. Twice within the first half hour, Benoit broke a string while playing a guitar solo; like a true pro, he never missed a beat, finishing the solo (and the song) on the other five good strings.
Benoit developed his style by playing in the blues dives of southern Louisiana, where he still lives today. He has an easygoing, spontaneous approach to playing and talking to the audience, and it's apparent when he plays that he loves what he does--which makes his enthusiasm contagious. Even in the crowded space of the Little Bear, people couldn't help but smile...and dance.
If you missed last night's show, you'll have another chance tonight, December 4. Benoit is playing tonight at the Gothic Theatre in Denver. Show starts at 9:00 PM. Definitely worth seeing, especially if you love southern-fried blues.
