For those keeping score--last Friday night goes to the ladies.

At the Toad Tavern last Friday night, Angie Stevens headlined a powerhouse lineup of some of the best female acoustic and vocal musical talent in Denver--including Wendy Woo, Goldie and the Bears and Megan Burtt.

Megan Burtt opened the show at 8:00 with an unplugged set on solo acoustic guitar, showcasing tunes from her recent CD and introducing a couple of new tunes as well. Burtt had a relaxed style and a natural stage presence, easily winning over the crowd.  It's not easy being first, but Burtt made it look easy.

Next up were Goldie and the Bears, wowing the crowd with a powerful set of blues- and soul-infused pop and flawless vocals. Goldie is a young talent with an amazing vocal range and great performance ability. Beauty, pipes and stage presence--this girl was the surprise of the evening, definitely one to watch.

Wendy Woo followed up with a strong set of fan favorites. With her characteristic acoustic guitar stylings and rhythm riffs, she filled the dance floor almost immediately and kept the crowd happy throughout her set. One standout moment was an apparently-impromptu cover of "Ain't No Sunshine" in which Woo invited Goldie back on the platform for a duet.

When Angie Stevens took the stage, it wasn't with her normal band setup; she had invited Something Underground to join her for the set. What followed played more like a spontaneous jam session among friends, with Stevens utilizing her stage time to showcase the great talent around her, as well as entertain with her own songs--beaming from ear to ear throughout the set. "This feels like Christmas," she said at one point.

All in all, it was a night that celebrated the talents of women--rather fitting, considering that Monday, March 8 was International Women's Day--and the talent on the stage at Toad Tavern was phenomenal. Every act on the stage could have headlined easily; to have all four sharing the stage on the same evening was a rare treat. There was not a bad performance among them--a fantastic evening of music all around.
