Only a mom—or two—can see inspiration in a big mess to create locally made in Denver bibs and blankets with their own company, Sloppy Baby.
Sister Nichole Montoya and Nesha Thompson were in need of a creative outlet and frustrated by a lack of appealing accessories for their baby girls in styles that they really liked.
“We were both looking for flexibility, more time with our children,” says Nichole. They started Sloppy Baby with bib and burp cloth sets in bright, fashionable fabrics for both boys and girls. The one size fits all bibs are 100-percent cotton on the outside with a fleece lining for extra absorbency and are machine washable.
Soon they added soft-as-a-baby’s-bottom patchwork blankets to the line, which are also sold as gift sets with the bibs and burp cloths.
All of the Sloppy Baby products are designed by Nichole and Nesha and made in Denver at a local Amerisew Manufacturing facility.
“There are huge benefits to producing our products locally,” Nichole says. “Of course, we like supporting domestic production, but the ease of being able to drive downtown to review samples, brainstorm construction improvements and discuss other specifics face-to-face with our manufacturer is priceless and makes the creative process even more enjoyable.”
Although their manufacturer can make 500 pieces in a run (or even up to tens of thousands of pieces), Sloppy Baby bases their orders on demand at the time.
Locally made Sloppy Baby products can be found at Details in Littleton, Erica’s Eclectic Mix in Englewood and other stores as well as on their site, www.sloppybaby.com.
