Watch the Perseids meteor shower August 11 and 12

Want some entertainment that won't cost you or the environment?  Then plan to watch the Perseids meteor shower August 11 and 12.

The meteor shower starts around midnight on August 11 and continues to dawn on August 12.

Unfortunately, Pittsburgh is not the best place to view the shower since the city lights up at night.  Luckily, there are plenty of dark places just a short distance away.  And, if you want to convince your entire apartment building and the buildings around you to eliminate the light pollution and turn off unused lights at night, then you might get a glimpse of the shower.  Easy ways to cut back on light pollution include, turning off unused lights, using downward facing lights and using fluorescent lights which can be purchased at all grocery stores.

So, get out of the city to a dark area free of light pollution and point your telescope Northeast.  The Perseids is supposedly the best shower of the year and it is eco and wallet friendly, no waste from parties and no debt from buying supplies.

For more ways to eliminate pollution and save money on entertainment, check out how to throw a green house party, and how to green up your office and apartment.

Using a telescope is NOT usually recommended. Unless the Pittsburg Living Green Examiner can tell us precisely where to point it to catch a specific split-second event.

By the way, everyone can make this event even more green if we all volunteer to not exhale between midnight August 11 and dawn August 12! Save the planet!

The post would have been a lot more informative if you didn't constantly shove "green" down our throats. Green, such a trend, soon it will be gone, can't wait.

Wow, when half of the world's endangered species and world coastlines are wiped out due to global warming you can blame yourselves. Yes green may be a "trend" but at least people are doing something for our enviroment whether it's for the right reasons or not. I agree with tim.
