For many Americans, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is as much a part of Thanksgiving as turkey dinner. They love the memories of waking up early and gathering around the TV in their pajamas while their mother is busy cooking for the day in the kitchen. But what about all of the Americans who are now living abroad or are solely reliant on their Internet? Is this a tradition that will live only in their memories, or can they enjoy this part of the festivities while eating their roast duck Thanksgiving dinner in China? Most definitely it can continue.
Here are some options*:
- Free options include the parade's host channel, NBC.com, and other TV broadcasters such as Hulu.com or Justin.tv (though you are most likely blocked or have to pay for these Internet sites if you have a foreign IP address)
- Satellite TV for your PC. You can purchase software which allows you to watch satellite TV from your computer or laptop. For some options, click here and here.
- Blogs such as this one which plan to stream the parade.
- Earthcam has 11 live cams following the parade route (including one in HD) and are already up and running, if you want peaks!
The classic parade is celebrating it's 83rd year and is scheduled for 9 a.m on Thursday, November 26 (EST). It will include all the classic clowns, dancers, bands, and balloons, as well as celebrity performers that include: Bello, Andrea Bocelli, Keke Palmer, the cast of Hair, Boys Like Girls, DJ Lance Rock and the cast of Yo Gabba Gabba!, Kermit the Frog and Tiffany Thornton, the cast and Muppets of Sesame Street, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots, cast of Billy Elliot, Sarah Hughes, Jane Krakowski, cast of Bye Bye Birdie, Ziggy Marley with Judah Marley, Miss America 2009 - Katie Stam, Katharine McPhee, Mitchel Musso, The Pizzarelli Quartet, and the cast of Shrek.
So gather your friends and your kids and make some more Thanksgiving Day parade memories, even if you are far from home this year!
