Celebrate Independence Day with Green Day and Duran Duran

The Fourth of July may traditionally be a time to spend with family and close friends, but this year’s long weekend means that it’s a great time to see live acts too. On Friday July 3rd Green Day will be kicking off their North American tour for new album 21st Century Breakdown at the Key Arena, Seattle Center. Support comes from New York indie rockers The Bravery, and doors open at 8pm. At the time of publication tickets are still available from Ticketmaster, with prices starting at $49.50 (plus fees), but hurry as this is one show that’s sure to sell out.

If Eighties pop tunes are more your thing then you’ll want to catch Duran Duran at Marymoor Park on Sunday July 5th. The New Wave band from Birmingham, England are also kicking off a short North American tour before returning to the UK mid-July. The show starts at 7pm, and once again tickets are still currently available from Ticketmaster, starting at $49.50 plus fees. Also bear in mind that temperatures are forecast to soar this weekend, so be sure to take plenty of water and sunblock for this outdoor venue.

Finally, if these two international acts are a little too mainstream for your tastes then Chop Suey offers us Brooklyn’s Dirty Projectors on Friday July 3rd. The band craft an eccentric blend of experimental pop that has attracted attention on both sides of the Atlantic, and are renowned for putting on a great live show. Doors open at 8pm, and advance tickets cost $12 from Ticketweb.

Just saw Green Day at Key Arena in Seattle. One sweet show! Wasn't into Bravery, too much posing. But they kept their set short, and Green Day played a solid two hour set. Not the marathon we were thinking it might be, but solid as a rock.
