Looking for an affordable quality hip-hop show to go see this Friday night?
Philadelphia Slick, DJ GI Joe, The Problemaddicts, DJ DB Cooper and Malbourne the MC all hit the Higher Ground Showcase Lounge stage in South Burlington this Friday. The show is presented by Halogen Records, Turn it up Promotions, and Sound Syndicate
Philadelphia Slick is a Philadelphia based hip-hop band including Noesis, El Smooth, Mike Polinsky, Zach Reilly and at times: Matt Scwartz, Jenn Z, and Adam Hershberger.
They are influenced by Mos Def, The Last Emperor, Madlib, Nas, Ghostface, Galt MacDermot, and Jazz Crusaders.
“As a hip hop band, Philadelphia Slick feels obligated to keep their ears tuned into everything,” their Facebook bio states. “They cherish rap music because of its ability to cut across styles, tying differences together with drum loops, bass lines, and poetry. “
Philadelphia Slick used funk, soul, and jazz as starting points to their music, but expanded their sound to include classical, tango, techno, along with other genres.
“What results is a sound that is “both retro and futuristic in equal doses” according to Under the Radar. At times a tight trio, at times a sprawling orchestral twelve piece, Slick is able to rock venues from small bars to large theatres with a consistently energetic and diverse sound.” –Facebook Bio
The group is currently at work on their second LP (Oil) to be released in early 2009.
