HIM. Finnish rock band. Heartagram. Ville Valo. Love metal.
Sunday night at the House of Blues was packed for HIM. Described to me as goth, but reminding me more of glam rock, HIM performed off their newly released album, Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice. In the single, "Scared to Death", frontman Valo, shows us how vulnerable even a rock star can feel: “I'm not afraid to say 'I love you' any more than I used to be, babe / I am scared to death / I am scared to death to fall in love.” Valo wears his heart on his sleeve – even has one tattooed on his wrist.
In anticipation of the show, the entire room chanted, "HIM! HIM! HIM! HIM!" Walking along the front row, a handful of fans briefly shared their feelings about the band.
Nicole from Woburn, “I’ve been a HIM fan for five years. I’ve always loved them and so far, this is great!”
Kelly from Revere: “METAL!! This is an awesome band! You can totally rock out to them.”
A Rhode Islander screamed into my IPhone: “I’ve been a fan since 2000!” This was followed by some inaudible yelling. He was very excited.
Random guy from someplace yelled: “Awesome!”
Jennifer from New Jersey: “I just really love the band. I think they are amazing and something different. I’m reminded of an 80’s kind of sound. They are truly a bunch of nice guys.”
