Alter The Ending is Dashboard Confessional’s newest album. They are out touring and stopped by the Boston House of Blues on Thursday night. Lead singer-songwriter, Chris Carrabba took the stage alongside John Lefler, Scott Schoenbeck and Mike Marsh and they could have just performed the instrumentals, leaving out the words. The crowd as a whole, took care of that part, singing every single word to every song. The Dashboard fans filled the HOB with their voices, chanting the choruses and screaming the verses.
Before the show started, Jillian, 20, eagerly volunteered to share, “I’m here to see Dashboard play live. This is my fourth time seeing them and I can’t wait!” Allison Baker from Cape Cod is definitely a true Dashboard fan, “My three best friends and I got Dashboard tattoos in honor of them and all of the good times we’ve had with them.” When asked to describe the tattoo, Allison said, “It’s of an anchor and lyrics that say: I’M BETTER NOW. I SWEAR.” This pays tribute to Dashboard’s song “The End of an Anchor” off of their 2003 album, A Mark • A Mission • A Brand • A Scar.
Another fan, Nelly had this to say, “I can’t claim coming to as many Dashboard shows as some of my friends here, but I did make it to one of their earlier shows. I went to one the summer of 2002, and since then I’ve tried to go to one show from every tour. Tonight, I’m hoping to hear one of my favorite Dashboard song, which is ‘So Impossible’. She described her favorite tour, “The Mark Mission Tour. They all sort of blend together after awhile, but I very vividly remember the backdrop. It was Christmas lights and it was gorgeous.”
Nelly’s favorite song from the most recent LP is "Blame it on the Changes". The chorus runs, “You can blame it on the changes / I can take it any way it is / We just got lost but we both found / We need this more than ever / Can you take it can we save it / Sink our teeth in tear away at it / Can we hold out can we hold on / Cuz I need you more than you know now.” This band writes great music with the kind of lyrics that you absorb and feel.
