Carlos n' Charlie's restaurant on Lake Travis hosted the 2009 Austin Surf Sesh on Saturday. The day-long event featured live music from multiple acts including The Pinch Hitters, Betaplayer, The Beat Dolls, and Scorpion Child. Alt-metal rockers Godsmack took the headline slot and played to a large, somewhat rowdy crowd.
Frontman Sully Erna wasted no time getting right into the hits Godsmack is known for, including "Awake" and "I Stand Alone". Erna, along with guitarist Tony Rombola, played played acoustic/electric guitars but it might well have been full electric given the enthusiastic reaction of the crowd. Sweaty, drunk bodies were pumping their fists, creating mini-mosh pits, and crowd surfing. One of the revelers, a thirteen year old at his first concert, was hoisted to the stage where he immediately leaped into the unsuspecting audience. A pause might have done him good as he took a nosedive, taking a few people with him. Moments later, he was held aloft once again, being passed from person to person.
The event was a benefit for Stephen Murray, a pro BMX rider who was rendered a quadriplegic after being injured while riding. Godsmack showed a good bit of class by reportedly volunteering for the show after hearing that it was a benefit for Murray.
More reports and pictures from the event are to follow!

Awesome show! The 2 bodyguards put an end to acustic mosh pit.
Heh, that's too bad. The crowd wasn't too bad, but it was definitely alcohol fueled! One guy puked on the stage right before Godsmack went on. Classy.
The whole day was a great event. It was hot, but Godsmack finished out with class. Keep pushing the bounds of what's possible Murray!
so...where do i find out or what was the set list for Godsmack?? Was it all acoustic?
Fuel TV and Lake Travis TV were taping the event and 101x put it on. Not sure if one of those three (or even emailing Godsmack) would be able to provide it.
I've had success in the past emailing the band directly for set lists.
Oh, and not sure if it was all acoustic. I left about halfway through as I had been there for 9 hours and had about 600 pictures to edit!
Surely someone at the show would have that info, if so please let us know. Thanks
yes it was all acoustic. I recorded the first 3 in HD and will probably be getting the footage to Fuel.
