Annie's Cafe & Bar to introduce Jazz Maestro Ephraim Owens on Thursdays!

Ephraim Owens, the local master of horns in the Austin's Jazz scene who is said to perform at Annie's Cafe on Thursday nights. Starting August 6th, he will captivate local patrons at the posh cafe-style bakery off S. congress.

Ephraim began playing classical trumpet at the age of eight and began sitting in with local players downtown. Best known for his improvision and solo ensembles, he is a truly inspiring individual. Since his move to Austin in 1994, he has became a key player in the jazz music scene.

Annie's Cafe is located in the heart of the Jazz central near the famous Elephant Room. This cozy cafe is an sophisicated venue adorned beautifully with exposed brick accompanying  jovial paintings.  The atmosphere overflows with soft casual colors and lavish extranvegancies.

Annie's Cafe, has an amazing drink that features a lush infusion of watermelon and rum. It is called the Watermelon Tiki Marsala, with Flor D' Cana, ron Zacapa 23, fresh watermelon and lime, then rimmed with Star Anise. Some local patrons have raved about its sweet aroma and remarkably smooth taste. National Watermelon Day was a big hit downown on Tuesday August 5th, with many rum enthusiasts tasting new melon insprired drinks.

Bar Manager Bill Norris keeps serving up popular new drinks for the locals. Another drink mixologist David Alan, runs an internet-based drink blog called "tipsy-texan" created a signature drink called the Candleabro rumored to make an entrance at Annie's in the near future. They have a happy hour featuring $5 cocktails and lesser priced appetizers. For music lovers, the jazz theme continues as the cafe pipes out live music on Friday and Saturday nights from 9 to 12pm.

 

Bruce Todd the mayor of Austin decided to appoint June 14th, 1997 as Ephraim Owens Day.  Owens also recorded with several other great musicians to name a few, Eryka Badu, Seth Walker, Texas Trumpets and performed with the like of Bonnie Raitt, Big John Patton, and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.

He was also in the independent film,"Before the Music Dies," a documentary on United States musical styles and varieties.

 

The Ephraim Owens Quintet, MoMo Ci has lit up the South By Southwest stage on several occasions delivering a stellar performance.
