Anne Rice releases vampire vook.
Iconic vampire author Anne Rice, who has stopped writing about vampires to focus on angels, has a new vook out. "What is a vook?" is most likely the first question on a reader's mind. Vook is the branded name for a video book via Vook.com.
Galley Cat reports, Rice "launches her inaugural vook today, a multimedia version of her 1984 vampire story, 'The Master of Rampling Gate.' View the trailer at Vook.
The New Orleans Literature Examiner is contemplating how a Vook differs from what Stephen King did with N, his original online video series of 25 episodes. Is it just a question of branding a name? King's project doesn't look as much like a movie, however, as Rice's appears to look. Watch King's N here.
"The Master of Rampling Gate' sticks to classic gothic formula, according to Rice, but it has a vampire.
Set in the gasslit streets of 1888 London and the wild moors of the countryside beyond, The Master of Rampling Gate tells the story of Julie, a young woman who becomes obsessed with the house her father swore her and her brother to tear down upon his death. Julie can't imagine what lies in wait at Rampling Gate, a spirit that haunted her father for years and now yearns for her flesh. The Master of Rampling Gate is a sublime love story in which Julie struggles to choose between the world of reason and rationality and the dark promises of a creature she is almost helpless to resist. Parts of it were shot in New Orleans.
Vook says that it's temporarily reduced the price of the Rice's video book from $4.99 to .99 cents. For more Anne Rice, visit her website.
