Author Margaret Atwood is promoting her latest novel, The Year of the Flood, with two websites, a blog, a Twitter account, and she'll be running a YouTube contest as well. But the object of the tour is to promote environmental groups and practices by all who wish to have their copies autographed.
The majority of her promotion is going on over the internet through her websites, blog, and Twitter account, reaching more of her fans than she feels she would in excessive traveling. "Tweet"ing allows real time updating that keeps fans in the loop. Practices that use less fossil fuels, thus reducing the carbon footprint.
Yearoftheflood.com, the website for the novel, not only has information about the book and its author, but also promotes several environmental groups in the US, Canada, and the UK; groups such as Nature Canada, Farm Forward, and others, along with contact information for the groups.
Ms. Atwood also plans a physical booksigning tour in conjunction with the cyber-tour. Along with the booksigning, there will be local musical groups providing entertainment, and local restaurants and chefs to offer food for the events. Information about the physical tour can be found at the website, yearoftheflood.com.
