Green Books Campaign: 1 day, 100 bloggers, 100 green books, 100 reviews

Eco-Libris, a green company dedicated to encouraging the book industry to become more eco-friendly, is hosting the Green Books Campaign to raise awareness of books printed on recycled or FSC-certified paper.  The event is scheduled for Tuesday, November 10, when 100 book review bloggers will simultaneously post reviews of 100 green books at 1:00 pm EST.

Eco-Libris Co-Founder and CEO Raz Godelnik says, “Although there’s so much hype around e-books, books printed on paper dominate the book market, and we want them to be as environmentally sound as possible.  Very few books are currently printed responsibly and we hope this initiative will bring more exposure to ‘green’ books.  Through this campaign we want to encourage publishers to get greener and readers to take the environment into consideration when purchasing books.”

The Green Books Campaign involves 100 green books on numerous subjects, ranging from cooking and poetry to knitting and travel.  These books have been sent to online book reviewers by more than 35 publishers from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, including HarperOne and Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing.

Godelnik notes, “The fact that all of these books are printed responsibly is barely known to the average reader.  We hope this campaign will help change this situation.  If eco-friendly books become more popular, the ‘green’ factor will become more prominent.”
