Friday night: Five Deadly Sins presented on stage

Five Deadly Sins official event poster

This Friday, why not indulge in something sinful?  At the United States Art Authority, starting at 7:30 pm, Five Things will be celebrating their first anniversary by presenting Five Deadly Sins.  Matching five writers with five of the seven deadly sins, the show is sure to inspire a little decadence.

Five things' performers are provided with their own unique point of inspiration based around the theme of the night, and five minutes to share the resulting piece, which can encompass poetry, prose and performance with a humorous bent.  Their first show coupled writers with items purchased from the Dollar General, while their second skillfully paired composition with consumption when writers based their pieces on a signature shot.

This Friday, five more brave writers and performers will gather to display their vices.  Stacey Swann is a former editor of American Short Fiction whose work has appeared in Epoch and Memorious.  Swann will be gobbling up the subject of Gluttony.  Confident in her ability to take on Pride, Cecilia Ward Jones was the winner of the thriller division of the Texas Writers' League novel contest.  Owen Egerton, author of Marshall Hollenzer is Driving and How Best to Avoid Dying, has been featured on KUT and VH1 for his writing and comic music CD Big Thick Wooden Board.  Hopefully he still has the energy for a little Sloth.  Dealing with the green-eyed monster of Envy is Rudy Ramirez, a writer, director and performer who directed Luna Tart Died and has worked with Humdrum Collective.  Tiff Holland will be seducing the audience with her piece on Lust.  Holland, twice nominated for the Pushcart Prize, has a poetry chapbook, Bone In a Tin Funnel, available through Pudding House.

A wonderfully weird event, this is the perfect opportunity to satisfy your craving for something literary and truly Austin.  And with a $1 admission, you'll have nothing to feel guilty about.
