Publishing has officially evolved into a new era of its history: the literary webzine.
Webzines, like blogs, have been surfacing and growing in number and strength since the '90s. Today, emerging and established writers have abundant opportunities in this new market to see their stuff published quickly and accessibly.
We'll begin taking a look at some of the numerous webzines that are making a name for themselves. This week: Flatmancrooked.
Flatmancrooked dabbles in both spheres: they have an active online blog published by their staff writers and editors, as well as an online chapter of published fiction, nonfiction and essays. On top of that, they publish an anthology in old-fashioned PRINT every Fall and Spring.
Their first anthology, which debuted this past Fall, not only featured emerging writers, but also well-established hallmarks of literature such as Jorge Luis Borges.
The multi-media part of their company is taken a step further by their "Raudio" section, through which they present audio stories, particularly about the Sacramento area.
Flatmancrooked is a perfect example of a new generation of writers, editors and literary critics using technology to get the attention of readers every way they can. With the prevalence of the Internet, both writers and publishing companies need to think outside the norm.
