Storyist complies all a writer's tools in one stream-lined layout.
For those of you gearing up for National Novel Writing Month - or anyone on the brink of starting a new or in-progress writing project - Storyist might be the tool you've been missing...especially if you're not...how do you say...organized.
Storyist Software is a stream-lined writing tool for novelists, screenwriters and playwrights. More than just a word processor, Storyist provides tools to organize plot elements, character notes, chapter/scene outlines, setting notes and images right along side your writing. Writers are free to design their workspace completely on their computer screen for a more unified system - an easy way to translate all those hastily scribbled thoughts in your composition notebook into useful information.
For the plot-driven (or plot-challenged) among us, Storyist also has a story-board view, that uses virtual note cards to outline the plot points.
One of the best features of Storyist is perhaps the FULL SCREEN MODE - which hides all the other distractions (open windows, desktop icons, iTunes, the email account you check every five seconds instead of writing) - helping even the most unfocused of us keep their eye on the ball. It also helps you format your writing properly (whether it be a novel, screenplay or stage play), so the manuscript retains a polished, professional presentation.
Storyist also allows writers to import projects they have already begun, as well as export projects (at least the information within the word-processor portion) into Microsoft Word (useful if you want to take your work along to a different computer that may not have Storyist Software).
For you crazy NaNoWriMon writers, Storyist also has a word-count and writing-time tracker which allows you to set goals for yourself and track your progress.
At first, the amount of options Storyist made available to my organizationally-challenged brain seemed almost overwhelming. But after spending some time exploring the possibilities, Storyist definitely proved to be a more professional, earth-friendly alternative to the tattered post-its circling my computer screen.
The bonus here? Storyist, as opposed to some other writing-software, is affordable! Starting at only $59 for the down-loadable only version, Storyist will not break a poor-writer's bank. PC users, however, are out of luck, as this software is only currently available for Mac.
Storyist is a sponsor of National Novel Writing Month's Night of Writing Dangerously - their write-a-thon fundraiser in San Francisco on November 22, 2009.
