Just what you’ve been waiting for: Quickies! with no strings attached. Well, there is one. You might have an arousing story to tell, but you only have five minutes to tell it.
A short prose showcase, Quickies! is the brainchild of Mary Hamilton and Lindsay Hunter, both graduates of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. As the co-hosts, Hamilton and Hunter select readers to present a complete work of prose in less than 5 minutes, but it’s not like anyone is keeping time with a stopwatch.* (Please see below)
What is short prose? It’s basically written work that isn’t poetry. A memoir about the summer you worked at Showbiz Pizza or the piece you wrote on how to pick out an LCD TV (one of last night’s gems) would qualify.
Ready to try a Quickie? Rather than accept submissions, Quickies! hosts a contest twice a year. The top 5-7 entries will be invited to read at a contest winner’s night. Check Quickies! Chicago for details.
Quickies! goes down the second Tuesday of the month at Inner Town Pub, a neighborhood bar so old school they don’t even have a soda gun; they pour Coke right from a 2 liter bottle.
The next Quickies! is December 8th. Remember, don’t get let your attention stray when you’re there because, much like a real quickie, the show will be over before you know it.

Thanks for writing about us! One correction: we actually do keep time with a stopwatch (granted, it's the stopwatch on my cell phone, but still!). Just wanted to clear that up.
Thanks for taking the time to read the article and provide feedback. As a newcomer to the Quickies audience, it appeared that the 5 minute time limit was an informal guideline for each speaker. I appreciate you clearing that up.
Quickies is a unique literary forum and I look forward to attending again in the future!
