It's not pretty, but it's true! Thank U!
I'll make this quick but I want to make it clear so I've done a separate article. Last night Ian Tuttle and Dawn Andres handed me an envelope. In this envelope was a letter. The letter explained that he didn't have a hard time raising the money. What money, I thought, and I felt a vague sense of debt without knowing why.
We were at the Literary Death Match, which was about to begin. The room was filling up. I hugged Ian before I knew why. He handed me a brand new external hard drive, still in its packaging. What had I said to him? When? And how did this happen?
I had just gotten back from Florida and mentioned while waiting in line for The Rumpus, which I'd hilariously gone straight from the airport for and therefore had my luggage with me, that my hard drive was almost full and I didn't know what I was going to do about it. So Ian sent a collection around at the San Francisco Writers Workshop, where I have been a few times, and they (and some other gracious folks) raised enough money to buy me a new one. This is really one of the most touching things ever. I just want to say thank you. I did say it and of course Ian and Dawn returned the thanks my way.
This is a lot of hard work and I know sometimes I have little to add in the way of commentary. I am so emotional right now. I am suddenly working at least 4 8-hr days in addition to the stuff I'm doing for The Chronicle and Quiet Lightning and sPARKLE & bLINK and all of the other loose ends and it's overwhelming sometimes. But I can't stop going to these events and filming because all of these people deserve to be seen and to be heard and I just think it's important someone does it. Thank you all so freaking much for your support and appreciation. It means so much to me I am crying and so happy (I hope you enjoyed the picture above. It was a real-time inspiration I'm sure I'll regret immediately).
To all of you who contributed, thank you from the bottom of my heart. This is my home and you are my frieeeends (*Sniffle* *Weird sound from my throat* *Chuckle*).
