'Wreck-It Ralph' wins Best Animated Film of 2012 at the 40th annual Annie Awards

Walt Disney Pictures’ animated film “Wreck-It Ralph” was named best animated film of 2012 at the 40th Annie Awards on Saturday evening, February 2, 2013 at UCLA's Royce Hall. “Wreck-It Ralph” is a film about a video game villain who wants more than anything to become the hero. While not technically based on a game itself, it does prominently feature real-life video game characters.

Note: "Wreck it Ralph" also has the chance of winning an Academy Award later this month... stay tuned to see if it wins.

Movies based on video games have, at best, had a rocky history. From the atrocity that was “Super Mario Bros.”, to the fairly faithful adaptation of “Silent Hill”, video games have proven to not always be the best recruiting grounds for successful movies. One director has made more terrible video game movies than any other, and that's Uwe Boll. Boll's movies are an insult to both, movies and video games. But as history has shown us, appearances can be deceiving.

Most people would agree that "Wreck-It Ralph" is an exception to the rule, but even though they are rare, good video game movies exist. In honor of "Wreck-It Ralph" winning, here is a list of video game films broken into three categories: The good, the bad, and the Uwe Boll.
